• GBU Ice Hockey Teams’ Doctor Confirmed

    The BUIHA are honoured to announce the appointment of Dr Mike Carmont, as GBU Doctor. Mike, worked for BUCS at two FISU World University (Winter) Games, and was dedicated team Doc to the GBU Men (Italy 2013 and Kazakhstan 2017).

    Mike brings a wealth of professional experience, skills and knowledge of sports injuries and has very kindly agreed to support GBU athletes as a volunteer, in the preparation for the 2019 WUGs, in Russia.

    GBU Programme Director, Simon Hopkins, said: “Mike is simply a brilliant doctor and a great guy. He’s a huge asset to GBU and we’re really very lucky to have him on board. The ‘Doc’, as he’s affectionately referred to by the players, loves to help motivate the team. Mike will be providing advice to players remotely for injuries and illnesses, in addition to providing hands-on treatment for acute injuries sustained in GBU challenge games”.

    Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Foot & Ankle and Sports Injuries Specialist

    Professional Background

    Michael is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working at the Princess Royal Hospital. He runs specialist clinics for Achilles Tendon rupture at both the Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals. He is past President of the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association and is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee Research Committee. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
